EASTGATE THEATRE AND ARTS CENTRE, PEEBLES
Often, when a church building is converted to another use, the exterior is left untouched with only the interior being changed. However, art is ever changing and should be created to provoke a reaction. The brief to convert a Victorian church in Peebles to an art centre and theatre stated that the ‘presence of the theatre should be evident from the exterior.’
Reywood have created something quite unique in this regard and left the front gothic façade unaltered, while creating a side elevation which is highly contemporary – Craftsmanship from two very different eras working in harmony together.
